Motion Graphics Proposal Template

An animated explainer is built in stages, and each one gets harder to change once the next begins. This template walks the client through script, storyboard, style frames, and animation, with approvals and revisions at each stage, and offers three options from a simple explainer to custom characters.

Thank you for inviting [Company Name] to propose on your animated video. This proposal covers how we'll build it, what you'll approve along the way, what you'll receive, and three options to choose from.

The Brief

[Client Name] needs [describe the video, for example: a 60-second explainer for the homepage that shows how the product saves finance teams a week at month end]. The video should:

  • [Goal, for example: explain the product in plain words to a first-time visitor]
  • [Goal, for example: work without sound, with captions, for social feeds]
  • [Goal, for example: match the new brand colors and type]

How We'll Build It

Each stage ends with your approval before the next one starts. That's what keeps the schedule and the budget steady.

1. Script. We write the voiceover script and on-screen text from a kickoff call with your team. Two rounds of revisions are included.

2. Storyboard. A frame-by-frame sketch of every scene, matched to the script, so you can see the whole story before anything is designed. Two rounds of revisions are included.

3. Style frames. Three to five fully designed frames that set the look: colors, type, illustration style, and characters where the option includes them. Two rounds of revisions are included.

4. Voiceover. You choose a professional voice from three samples, and we direct the recording to the approved script.

5. Animation. We animate every scene to the voiceover, add music and sound design, and mix the final audio. Two rounds of revisions are included, with notes consolidated in one document per round.

What You'll Receive

  • The final video in the lengths and aspect ratios in your option, as high-resolution files
  • Captioned versions for social media
  • The approved style frames as still images for your presentations and posts

Timeline

Most explainers take six to eight weeks from kickoff: about two weeks for the script and storyboard, one for style frames, and three to five for voiceover and animation. We'll confirm dates at kickoff, which can be scheduled within two weeks of your signed approval.

What We Need From You

  • One decision-maker who gives consolidated feedback at each stage
  • Feedback within five business days of each presentation, so the schedule holds
  • Your brand guidelines, logo files, and any product screens to show

Revisions and Changes

Revisions included at each stage are listed above. Further rounds, or changes to a stage that's already approved, are billed at $125 per hour with your approval first. A new voiceover recording after the voiceover is approved is billed at cost.

Usage and Ownership

On full payment, [Client Name] may use the final video in perpetuity on its own websites, social channels, and presentations, including paid social and online advertising. Broadcast and television use, and use by third parties, need a separate license. Licensed music and voiceover are limited to the terms of their licenses. [Company Name] keeps the copyright in the animation and project files. Characters and illustrations created for [Client Name] won't be used for anyone else. Project files aren't part of the deliverables, and are available on request for a fee.

Payment Terms

50% of the selected option is due on signing to reserve your place in our schedule, and 50% on delivery of the final files. Invoices are due within 15 days. Final files are delivered once the balance is paid.

Frequently asked questions

How long does an animated explainer take to make?

Most 60 to 90 second explainers take six to eight weeks, from script to final files. The schedule depends on how quickly each stage is approved, since animation starts only once the storyboard and style are agreed.

Why do changes cost more later in an animation project?

Each stage builds on the one before. Changing a line of script during animation can mean new voiceover, new storyboard frames, and scenes animated again. Approving each stage before moving on keeps changes cheap.
