Consulting Project Estimate Template

A consulting estimate gives a prospective client a number they can take to their budget holder before you write the full proposal. This template prices a fixed-fee operations review by phase, so the client sees what each part of the work costs and where the scope could flex.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between a consulting estimate and a proposal?

An estimate prices the work so the client can budget for it. A proposal makes the case for doing it, with your approach, deliverables, and terms, and is what the client signs. Many consultants send the estimate first.

Should consultants quote fixed fees or hourly?

For a defined diagnostic or project, a fixed fee is easier for the client to approve and rewards you for working efficiently. Hourly suits open-ended advice where the scope can't be known in advance.

Is this consulting project estimate template free?

Yes. Read and copy the full text on this page, or edit it online and see it as your client will. When it's ready, start a free Clientary trial to send it or download it as a PDF.

Has a lawyer reviewed this template?

No. It's a general starting point written by Clientary, not legal advice, and it hasn't been reviewed by a lawyer for your situation or the laws where you and your client work. Have your own counsel review it before you use or sign it.
